The Coffex Commitment
Economic development, environmental protection and respect for individuals and different cultures have always been constant values for Coffex Coffee. At Coffex we procure our beans through a thorough and exhaustive procurement plan that has been honed by over 40 years of experience.
In June 2005 Coffex launched its first Fair trade certified products in the Australian market under the trade name of Global Café Direct. The Fair trade system aims to strengthen ties between the growers and the end consumers, provide a better deal for producing co-operatives and assist in development projects; visit our section on Fairtrade and Organic Coffee Proudcts, or see www.fta.org.au for more details. In the Coffex branded coffees we only use the finest green beans, which are in short supply and so have not been as affected by global green coffee market volatility and the price collapse in the 90s; as greater quantities of Fair trade green coffee becomes available in Australia, we will assess the merits of including these in our regular blends.
At Coffex we understand that as a successful organisation we have the power to give something back to the Australian community and support worthwhile projects. Over the years Coffex has supported and raised funds for many charities, including the Red Cross and World Vision Australia.

Coffex gives generously to the Australian Red Cross Bali Appeal

Alan White of the Australian Red Cross, wrote to thank Coffex for the donation of $5,000 to the Bali appeal in 2003, he said, 'This wonderful donation to the Bali Appeal was made possible by the redirection of funds normally allocated to the purchase of Christmas gifts for our valued customers and staff. Your generosity is truly appreciated by the Australian Red Cross.' The general manager of Coffex was keen to point out that this was an extraordinary donation and that funds had not been diverted from other charities.
Community Support - Just Enough Faith
Just Enough Faith is run by former restaraunteur Jeff Gambian and his wife Alina Gamblin, and a small team of volunteers who feed Sydney's growing hordes of homeless people.
Seven days a week, 12 months a year, they serve up to 400 hot meals a night out of their van, primarily drawing on their own funds and relying on the goodwill of food suppliers to cover the remaining 20%. However, their objective is much more than just feeding the homeless. It's about giving them hope and helping them regain respect by counseling and where possible housing.
To date Jeff and Alina spend considerable time scanning newspapers for job advertisements, assist their proteges to prepare for interviews, and speak to their prospective employers asking them to give them a go. With approx. $8,000/wk in operating expenses, Jeff and Alina have contributed over $2.5million of their own money since starting the initiative. However times are getting tough for the couple and they need to supplement their own funds with outside financial, equipment and produce assistance.
Coffex Coffee has put it's weight behind the project by supplying Just Enough Faith with free coffee equipment and ongoing training to give those in need the possibility of re-establishing themselves in the community.
