In June 2005 Coffex Coffee released Global Cafe Direct into supermarkets, a fairtrade brand, featuring products which have been Fairtrade and Organic Certified. We believe the Global Cafe Direct range will compliment our existing blends, which have been traditionally sourced since 1958.
The Fairtrade system is an ethical movement which guarantees third world producers a fair price for their coffee, and therefore helps to reduce global poverty and Coffex are glad to be a part of it. We believe Global Café Direct products will be commercially successful in this emerging market as they are of the same high quality as our existing lines as well as being ethically sound. Global Cafe Direct products have been certified by the Fairtrade Association Australia and New Zealand FTAANZ.
The decision to introduce Fairtrade coffee into our product portfolio was made after observing the startling growth in the UK Fair trade market over the past ten years; this convinced us that the Australian consumer would soon demand an ethically produced coffee, especially if it was produced to Coffex's usual high standards.
Organic Fairtrade Coffee:
The first of the Global Café Direct products is an Organic Fair trade coffee blended from Arabica beans sourced form around the world. We consider it necessary to blend different Fairtrade varietals in order to produce a balanced, flavoursome cup.
Available in Beans (1kg), ground (250g vacuum pack), and most recently... PODS!
Organic Fairtrade Decaffeinated Coffee:
The second Global Café Direct product is Decaffeinated and has been produced from a pure Central American varietal after it has been treated using the Swiss Water Process. The Swiss Water Process uses water, rather than chemicals to remove the caffeine, leaving the coffee full of flavour and without any chemical aftertaste.
Available ground in 250g vacuum pack only.
Both of these Fairtrade blends are availble from Coffex, as well as in Coles supermarkets (in 250g ground varieties only) and leading independent retailers.
